]]>Irina Muresanu has won the hearts of audiences and critics alike with her exciting, elegant and heartfelt performances of the classic, romantic and modern repertoire. The Boston Globe has come to praise her as “…not just a virtuoso, but an artist”, and the Los Angeles Times has written that her “musical luster, melting lyricism and colorful conception made Irina Muresanu’s performance especially admirable,” while Strad Magazine called her Carnegie/Weill Hall performance a “…a first-rate recital.” Irina Muresanu’s performances have been frequently cited as among the “Best of” classical music performances by the Boston Globe, and her recital in the Emerging Artist Celebrity Series was named one of the Top 10 musical events by the TAB Magazine.

Early on, Ms. Muresanu had acquired international acclaim as an outstanding young soloist, recitalist and chamber musician having already achieved top prizes in numerous international violin competitions. These include the Montreal International, Queen Elizabeth Violin, UNISA International String, Washington International, and the Schadt String Competitions. She is also the winner of the Pro Musicis International Award, the Presser Music Award and the Arthur Foote Award from the Harvard Musical Association and the Paul Rolland Award.
Irina Muresanu has performed in renowned concert halls throughout the North America, Europe and Asia. Her recent engagements as soloist include concerts with the Boston Pops, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Geneva), the Syracuse Symphony, the Metropolitan Orchestra (Montreal), the Transvaal Philharmonic (Pretoria), the Orchestre de la Radio Flamande (Brussels), the Boston Phiharmonic, the Willliamsburg Sinfonia, the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, the Romanian National Radio Orchestra, the New England String Ensemble and the Miami Symphony Orchestra among others.
This season, the Civic Symphony of Boston commissioned a violin concerto from composer Thomas Oboe Lee to be written especially for Irina Muresanu, which she premiered in March 2010.
Ms. Muresanu can often be hearn on major radio stations such as NPR, Boston’s WGBH, New York’s WQXR, Radio France Classique, Hong Kong Radio and Romanian Radio Classical.
In 2008, Ms. Muresanu (along with pianist Michael Lewin) released the integrale of William Bolcom's violin and piano sonatas for the Centaur label, funded by a Copland Recording Grant award. In Europe, her recording of the Guillaume Lekeu and Alberic Magnard late Romantic violin and piano sonatas (with pianist Dana Ciocarlie) for the AR RE-SE French label has sparked enthusiasm and Ms. Muresanu was praised for her “singing and soaring” “sizzling performance” (Fanfare). The artist has also recorded the world premiere recording of Marion Bauer's Sonata for Violin and Piano (with pianist Virginia Eskin) on Albany Records, a CD with chamber works of Andy Vores, and a CD featuring chamber works of Erich Korngold released by the VPRO Radio Amsterdam. Adding to her other competition laurels, Ms. Muresanu has been granted a Special Commendation award for her recording of Schoenberg's Fantasy for violin and piano at the 3rd International Vienna Modern Masters Performers Recording Competition.
Irina Muresanu’s talents have been sought out for collaboration with such noted performers as Kim Kashkashian, Cynthia Phelps, Sharon Robinson, Ronald Thomas, Andres Cardenes, Ilya Kaler, and Nathaniel Rosen. An active chamber musician, Ms. Muresanu has appeared in such festivals and venues as Bargemusic in New York; the Rockport Festival in Massachusetts; Bay Chambers concert series and Bowdoin Festival in Maine; the Strings in the Mountains and San Juan Music festival in Colorado; Maui Chamber Music Festival in Hawaii, Reizend Music festival in Netherlands; Festival van de Leie in Belgium; and the Renncontres des Musiciennes festival in France. Ms. Muresanu has been a member of the Boston Trio since 2002 and she performs with the Andover Chamber Music Society, the Walden Chamber Players and the Boston Chamber Music Society.
Irina Muresanu currently serves on both the faculties of the Boston Conservatory and the Music Department at Harvard University. She was appointed Artist-in-Residence as a member of the Lewin-Muresanu Duo at the Boston Conservatory and her ensemble, the Boston Trio, is Ensmble-in-Residence at the New England Conservatory. A native of Bucharest, Romania, she received the prestigious Artist Diploma (1999) and a Doctorate in Musical Arts degree (2009) from the New England Consevatory.
Born in Bucharest, Romania, Ms. Muresanu resides in Boston, MA. She plays a 1856 Giuseppe Rocca violin and a Charles Peccat bow courtesy of Mr. Mark Ptashne.

]]>The music of both Johannes Brahms and Richard Beaudoin glances back at the old masters. Brahms re-shaped classical forms with his progressive harmony and phraseology; Beaudoin re-casts romantic lines, often layering quotes from the old masters while creating decidedly modern forms. Constantine Finehouse’s new recording weaves these two composers together, illustrating the vitality and interconnectivity within classical tradition.

Richard Beaudoin is a composer born in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. He studied composition and theory in America at Brandeis University and Amherst College, and in London at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2007, the first act of his opera-in-progress based on Herman Melville’s PIERRE was staged at London’s Arcola Theatre, directed by Andrew Steggall.

]]>My name is Piotr Kowalczyk known as Piotrek. I'm a jazz vocalist, composer and arranger. Living in Boston, I've been perfecting and polishing all the intricate details of my workshop both as a performer and a writer. I have had the pleasure of establishing firm artistic bonds with such great musicians as Uziel Colon, Freddie Burgos, Roshan Rozman , Vadim Neselovski, Hogyu Hwang, Lee Fish, with whom I played a great number of concerts/ recordings allover New England. My music is full of vivid and surprising harmonic colors, spiced up by melodic references to my heritage, firmly grounded in the Eastern European romantic tradition. My recent compositions are particularily influenced by the warm and fascinating rhythms of Afro-Cuban music, samba and bossa nova. The uniqueness of my voice, which is widely recognized among the jazz afficionados, was hailed as "a silky sound with a cognac flavor". My speciality - jazz ballads The silky and warm timbre of my voice with a charming European accent / Flavorful harmonies with latin jazz influences/You can’t go wrong with this! The above influences are the outcome of a natural process of my interacting with musicians who bridge the two musical worlds: that of modern jazz and the fascinating world of Afro-Cuban music (Salsa). This interaction fuels my imagination and brings me immense pleasure both as a performer and a composer. It is a pleasure for me to be able to share my music with you here on this webpage. Cellist | Sebastian Baverstam

]]>Praised by The Strad for his “…powerfully expressive style,” cellist Sebastian Bäverstam is a winner of the 2009 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. He is also a winner of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Concerto Competition, resulting in a performance of the Shostakovich Concerto with the BSO at Symphony Hall. In 2007, Mr. Bäverstam was called on to substitute for Lynn Harrell with the Cape Cod Symphony on only six hours notice. He delighted the audience playing Schumann’s Cello Concerto and was praised by the Cape Cod Times for his “insightful musicianship and poetic feeling.”

Highlights of his upcoming concert schedule include New York recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, as part of the CAG Winners Series, and at Merkin Concert Hall, as well as performances at St. Vincent College (PA), the Honest Brook Music Festival (Delhi, NY), and in Boston, Connecticut and Switzerland.
Sebastian Bäverstam, age twenty, has appeared multiple times on the nationally syndicated radio show From the Top, and he has also been heard on international radio broadcasts on Voice of America. On television, he was featured on the PBS TV version of From the Top, and he has participated in a PBS documentary filmed at Carnegie Hall, as well as a film by the Masterclass Media Foundation of Great Britain and a nationally televised commercial for Bose speakers.
As a concerto soloist, Mr. Bäverstam has performed with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Boston Civic Symphony, Brockton Symphony Orchestra, Concord Symphony Orchestra and the Chernikov Symphony Orchestra, among others, and has toured China, Venezuela and Brazil as soloist with the New England Conservatory Youth Philharmonic Orchestra
Committed to performing music of our time and to working with living composers, Mr. Bäverstam was the 2006 winner for contemporary interpretation at the Johansen International Competition for String Players. He has attended many summer festivals including the Aspen Festival, the Banff Centre in Canada, the Verbier Festival Academy and the International Music Academy of Switzerland, directed by Seiji Ozawa.
Mr. Bäverstam offered his first full recital at the age of six at Harvard University and his first concerto with orchestra at the age of seven. In 2002 at the age of fourteen, he made his Weill Hall debut. Since then he has given numerous solo recitals, recently performing all six Bach cello suites at Williams College. He appeared as the featured young artist of the 2005 Williamstown Chamber Concerts and has also performed at the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival, the ASCAP awards at Lincoln Center, the Théatre des Champs Elysées in Paris and many other venues.
Additional recognition for Sebastian includes the 2006 Harvard Music Association Young Artist Award, the New England Chamber Music Foundation Award in 2004, first place in the 2002-2003 and the 2000-2001 New England Conservatory Preparatory School Concerto Competitions, the 2002 Suzuki Association of America and the International Young Virtuoso Competition of 2001-2002.
A dual citizen of the United States and Sweden, Sebastian Bäverstam has participated in master classes with Frans Helmerson, Orlando Cole, Pieter Wispelwey, and Bernard Greenhouse, among others, and he currently studies with Paul Katz at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
